What you can do right now to stop the jail
If you live in Dutchess County, please email the County Legislature and tell them to vote NO! on the jail complex. Email them at: countylegislature@co.dutchess.ny.us
Or you live outside Dutchess County, help spread the word by sharing the petition on Facebook or Twitter.
The County Executive's claim that the state is forcing them to build this complex is simply NOT true. And all of this is happening even though crime in Dutchess is down 20% and other local and state governments are closing jails.
Common Cause NY agrees and weighed in on the proposal, issuing a press release this morning saying:
"At a time when over-all crime is dropping throughout Dutchess County, as in the rest of the state, it is bewildering that the County Legislature is rushing through measures to build a new jail based on projections that crime is on the rise."
