Less Is More Act

As of today, March 1, 2022, many of the transformative provisions of the Less Is More Act are in effect! The Less Is More Act has already had an impact in the fight for justice: nearly 1,500 people have been released from jails and prisons across the state since it was signed into law. Today, the #LessIsMoreNY Coalition released a new report and press release on the implementation of the bill thus far.

The remaining provisions—the recalculation of time assessments (sanctions of incarceration) and the earned-time credits provisions— will take effect in the late summer and early fall. We are calling on the Governor to implement these provisions immediately. When fully enacted, the law will put New York at the forefront of shifting parole from being overly punitive to being supportive and will help keep communities safe.
