Ending a culture of White Supremacy and Racism in policing

This announcement is from Rise Up Kingston:

Rise Up Kingston has joined in with activists and organizers around the country to demand changes to how we look at Public Safety, specifically by Defunding the Police and investing in our communities.

We are looking to build a coalition of organizations and entities in Kingston and the Hudson Valley to show the importance of having a budget that reflects the priorities of our community -  Ending a culture of White Supremacy and Racism in policing. We hope that this could act as a model for other communities in the future.

Here's the zine that we created that outlines our campaign to defund the police in Kingston by 22%.

We discussed this initiative at last evening's ENJAN meeting, and will vote at the 8/11 ENJAN meeting on whether the Poughkeepsie Chapter of ENJAN should sign on. Please review this outline and be prepared to vote.

Citizen Action Workshop

Citizen Action of New York is sponsoring a 3-day workshop, Reversing Runaway Inequality, on Aug 10-12 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Zoom. Register using the above link. From the announcement:

In this workshop, we examine the massive level of economic inequality we bear in America today. We will discuss both what the current inequality looks like and how it came to be. Our economic system was built on exploitation of Black and brown people and, in order to achieve economic justice, we must understand and dismantle the racism inherent in the system.
