Friday, March 27, POUGHKEEPSIE:

A screening of the historical film “Freedom Riders” will take place at the Sadie Peterson Delaney African Roots Library (2nd floor) of The Family Partnership Center, 29 North Hamilton St. It is part of the PBS Series “Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle.” We’re told: “The film chronicles the story behind hundreds of civil rights activists called the Freedom Riders who challenged the racial segregation of the American interstate transport by traveling together in small interracial groups and sitting where they chose on the buses and trains to demand equal access to terminal restaurants and waiting rooms, and to bring racial segregation to national attention. These brave, nonviolent Freedom Fighters encountered vicious police and racist violence in the South.
